KAKWA - Authentic re-creations of traditional and historical Aboriginal artifacts

Currently based in the hamlet of Riceton, Saskatchewan, Kakwa is a Métis initiative that was founded in Calgary, Alberta in 1993. Kakwa's partners are Kathleen and Jeffrey Coleclough, who are both of Ojibwa descent. Kakwa has established an excellent reputation for quality and authenticity with all of our products. With over 100 museums, historic sites, and school programs using our products, Kakwa's Aboriginal Resource Kit has received provincial approval for classroom use in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, to date. Our clients include: Canadian Museum Of Civilization, Regina Board Of Education, University Of Saskatchewan, Cypress Hills Inter-Provincial Park, Department Of Anthropology - U. of T., Prince Of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, Glenbow Museum, Fort Calgary, Parks Canada, SERM, Gray Roots Museum, Royal Saskatchewan Museum, University Of Alberta, Smithsonian Institution's NMAI (USA), Amon Carter Museum (USA), and the Royal Naval Museum (UK). In addition to providing artifact replicas for numerous educational programs, Kakwa's presentations on traditional skills such as hide-tanning, stone tool-making, and earth pigments have been featured in museums, historic parks, and schools across Canada.

Since its inception, Kakwa has participated in many shows and exhibits pertaining to Native arts and heritage. Kakwa's jewellery and artwork is displayed in private collections in Asia, Europe and across North America. Kakwa has also provided props, set decoration, costuming, and technical consulting for 25 movie and television productions to date, including: Crossfire Trail, Dreamkeeper, Into The West, Legend Hunters, Little House On The Prairie, Monte Walsh, Open Range, Shanghai Noon, and Shoebox Zoo.
