READING
"Miyelo"
- published by Perceval Press. The late 1800's was a time of
desperation for the First Nations of the Plains. The buffalo
were gone, and a desolate life sequestered on reservations faced the
people. Out of this arose the teachings of Wovoka - the
Prophet - in the form of the Ghost Dance. His message of a
return to the old ways ignited events culminating in the massacre at
Wounded Knee in 1890. With essays, quotations, and eye witness
accounts - interspersed with photography invoking a ghostly imagery
of their own - "Miyelo" offers a unique
perspective on this tragedy. For more information, please

"Through The Eyes Of The Cree - The Art Of
Allen Sapp: The Story Of A People" - published by The Allen
Sapp Gallery. Allen Sapp is considered to be among Canada's
most accomplished artists, and this aptly named book is a beautiful
companion piece for the exhibition of the same name recently on
tour. This award-winning book showcases some of Allen's
beautiful art, photos of artifacts from his childhood, and essays. For more information, please visit

"Stone By Stone
- Exploring Sites On The Canadian Plains" - published by
Heritage House. This unique guide takes you through the stone
artifacts, effigies, and rock art left by the nomadic First Peoples
of the southern prairie of Canada. Excellent colour photos,
maps, and drawings cover over 50 sites in Saskatchewan and Alberta.
